I can find KYB front struts for the '94 but no rears.  Monroe makes front and rears for 91 to 93.  What's a girl to do?

Is it a 5 speed turbo car?  Otherwise it's the same as the 1991-1993, I think only the 1994 turbo has different rear struts, but it's a performance change, I believe the suspension design is the same.

You can use the 91-93 struts. The 94 turbo used a slightly stiffer strut, but that's probably not carried over to aftermarket parts because of so few numbers.

The 91-93 struts are the same size and fitment and will work fine. If you want a nice strut go for the KYB GR2's or Tokico HP's. The GR2's are probably very close to OEM 94 XR2 performance.

No the 91-93 are NOT the same fitment.
No the 94 XR2 did not get a stiffer strut.

The rear struts are 1994 specific and earlier model year shocks do not accomodate the later design.

The Springs of the 1994 XR2 are different from the 1994 non-turbo models, and all models produced in previous years.

It is true that finding a gas shock for the rear of the 1994 can be time consuming.  If a source says they have some available, it should be confirmed to be for the 1994.  I don't feel that any strut originaly fitted to a Capri is going to compare to a gas replacement.

I have a 94 XR2.  If Chicken is right, I'm f%@*&ed No one makes rear struts of any sort for my car.  There has got to be someone out there who has first hand knowledge.  I tend to believe chicken, because if they all fit, I would think the manufacturers would list them as 91-94.

Let me just set this straight.  I work at an auto parts store.  80% of the parts for my own car I bought under a 1988 mazda 323 with a 1.6L turbo.  Heck our computers/books at work don't even list wipers for the capri under major brands.  And many of our sources list the car as 92-94 or 91-93 as the only production.

The strut design aparantely stayed the same on the 1994's but the XR2 gets a slightly stiffer strut.  You won't notice much difference with a performance strut, which would be a stiffer then OE strut.

There should be no fitment issues putting a 91-93 strut on a 94 XR2. Yes the OEM strut was stiffer, but it's the same physical package.

The springs were lower ride height, yes - but that has no relation to the strut itself. The physical difference on the 94 XR2 was the balljoint ends for the swaybars, as opposed to the previous link & bush design

I'm trying to dig up some pictures of 94 XR2 suspension

Crap if I was home I had the Photos...I know for a fact 94 struts will work in lower year cars. I installed them on another car.

the 94 XR2 had the different front sway bar for sure.

You can put any strut into any year....

I also have the KYB in my 98 Eclipse GSX that is lowered and rides like a dream

I have first hand experience.  My first post is accurate and the information in it was true before I posted it and will remain true unless a time paradigm occurs in the future.

These really are great poiints of view.  I understand where some may be considered.

This forum is not the only place on the internet where overthinking weighs heavier than facts.  Overthinking is heavy doo doo and I have been under it many time. -More first hand experience.

@ rcdraco (Do Not Take any Offense PLEASE!)
Do you own a 1994 model year Caprithat said parts have been installed on?

This is a easily observable example of why I say BE SURE TO HAVE THE VENDOR CHECK THAT THE PART IS FOR THE 1994 MODEL YEAR. ...Remove from box and compare.  There must be a million hours a year wasted on incorrect delivery.

I am only trying to be helpful.  I may be misunderstood.

Let's do it this way.  Post the vin of the car, I can reverse lookup to tell you if it's actually a 1994.  Many people on craigslist, and even dealers will lie about the year of a vehicle, just to get top dollar, and even more people like to rip the parts of a 1994 to make their car look "better".

Chicken,

Your post above said "91-93 are NOT the same fitment"

Can you please elaborate on this, what is different? This fitment issue is strictly for the 94 XR2 rear, correct? Why won't they work? Do you have pictures from when you had them done, to demonstrate the differences?

I'm not trying to be a dick here, I'm curious as to what the exact differences are. I have worked on 94XR2s before and I can't say I've noticed anything different about the rear struts. I'm all about correctness & accuracy of information, can you please clarify this for us?

Thank you-
Matt
