Front Strut Tower Bar - Does it really help?
« on: July 11, 2008, 04:07:00 AM »

I'd like the real skinney on the Front Strut Tower Bar. I have a '93 NA and wondered if it is really beneficial and noticable to install the bar. I've read a lot of posts but haven't been able to discern "cool" from functionality.

Also, is there a really good one if it is really worth installing? Sounds like a lot of dissatisfaction from various people on their purchases. I understand the 3-4 bolt version is desirable.

I have two '93 NAs and don't want to waste money on useless add-ons especially since one of my '93s was wrecked by my wife and needs a front end (chop) job.   :(

Thanx!

I would say that the strutbar is one of the best mods you can do to improve handling. It makes a huge difference in the way the car feels in the corners, its much stiffer.

strut tower bar makes the car handle like a racing champ. I don't know about the different versions out there. I bent my own bar before different groups started producing them for sale. so ya, my bar is one of a kind

I concur!!  A strut bar made a BIG difference in the way my 92 XR2 handled!!
I think Cory has them for under a hundred bucks (?)

Well, sounds like I'd enjoy the bar. It will be interesting to see if it makes my capri better than the RX7 I had many, many moons ago.

I checked Cory's web site and didn't see any bars for sale. Cory, Are you out there ?

Anyone know of other sites that have quality bars?

Thanx, Ben

Hey Ben! There is a stability increase in the turns at speed and also on the turbo cars it helps negate torque steer while extreme accelleration at lower speeds. I have bars on two of my cars.  Gus.

Hey Ben! I forgot to add that Corey is at 2nerfixx and should be able to help you with a bar. Check the side bar of the forum under links.  Gus

hey just2day,
i got mine from pj at midcounty mustang, great guys and relatively cheap.
i found that the strut brace stiffened the front end up alot.
i had lowered sport springs and koni suspension installed before bolting in the brace and the car already handled great.
after installing the brace the front end was too rigid and now plow understeers. i know it sounds ridiculous but the car handled better with the natural flex it had, probably due to the combination of after market suspension being overly stiff and cheap tyres.
the positive side to having the brace is that the car is much more predictable during cornering and in the event that the rear lets loose on the exit of a turn the sudden recoil is reduced. not sure if this is because the brace does not allow you to get into that situation of if it inhibits the structural flexing of the strut towers. it could well be both.
bottom line that it is one of the most effective way to alter your handling. it is cheap, easily installed and as a single component provides noticable results.
