will 17x7.0 rims fit on the capri with out adjusting the ride hight to drastically also with out bothering the calibration of the speedo.

Depends on the offset.  If I remember right I have 40mm+ on mine, and I'm close on my rear struts but ok.  I think somebody else used 40mm+ and was also ok.  Best thing to do is just have the rim/tire shop test fit to make sure it's ok.

It's not the ride height that will be trouble for you, it's that rear strut, the spring perch.  Good Luck.

look at my car's pics in the gallery I have 17x7's 40mm offset 205/40/17 tires. very close in the rear but with absolutely no problems.

My speedo seems to be off by quite a bit since I put my 17's on. I'm not sure if the cop was telling the truth, but he said I was going 85 when my speedo showed about 78. The car also looked like an AWD but the wheel well gap was smaller.

yah same here, its taller but that wheel gap is slowly getting smaller!

my rear tires rubbed for about a day  ;)

7mph seems like quite a bit, but our speedos could be off by like 1-2 to begin with.  I tested my speed after I got my 17's from the factory 15's and it was only off by maybe 1-2mph, and I tested with a hand help GPS.  I think somebody had posted a web-based calculator at one time though.
