Drivers-side window motors?
« on: April 08, 2008, 08:44:00 AM »

I've done the switch-cleaning thing, but the motor's still really week on the driver's side.  Replacements seem to be made of unobtainium.  Is there a similar motor (or preferably stronger...) that could bolt in?  Better yet, were there manual hand-crank windows available on Capris?  I'm old-school - I wouldn't cranking it myself and shedding a couple of pounds off the car if I could obtain the necessary parts.

The capri never came with a hand crank window. I think the capri is fairly unique with the window regulators, otherwise I'd suggest finding a base model 323 hatch but I dont think it'd be the same.

I'd say running heavier gauge power wire into the door would definately help, and I'm sure a motor could be rigged up from another car.

Right now I'm thinking of how to convert to relays (seems the 94 used a central relay box for the windows) with kickback diodes installed so it doesnt arc over and bugger up the contacts like it does in the door switches. This could be done to save the switches from cleaning too but i'm too tired to figure it out right now

Hey Spiro! Sometimes sraying a dry lube along the edges of the glass will help. look for silicone spray.  Gus
