OEM power antenna for Capri & XR2
« on: February 05, 2003, 07:14:00 AM »

Interesting info,
I just rode in my friends 95 Mercury Sable? and it has power antenna in the front fender, that looks very close to Capri's. And it's power, so I'm thinking it could be a direct fit - Ford parts bin.. Isn't that great? Now we can hide our huge antenna in a fender.

Sounds good, but I'm getting mine shaved off when I get the car repainted in the near future. If it works for you post up so other will know. Also I dont believe the car has a .5 volt out for the antenna to activate it since all the capris have fixed ones. So just curious on how you plan to get by that. Hook it up to a switch? Hook it up to the radios ground hoping enough power can get past the radio to activate the antenna? What ideas do you have?

Judging on my other car stereo has special output wire to power relay or directly antenna motor..
So it's not Capri specific.. I just noticed that antenna looks so alike and knowing how Ford loves to save money

I'm not sure that I want it over there anyway.. I was thinking of putting small antenna on the trunk.. don't know yet..

Always do one of them euro atennas on the trunk, I never saw a option like that on my 94, althought the wire harness for  the an after market radio shows the wire for when you connect it to the capri's wireharness though it doesnt connect to another wire.

Yeah, you right, you would have to wire your car with this additional wire.. But it's like installing an alarm..

I changed the radio out with a Kenwood with Sirius satelite. The electric antenna went right into the fender with no mods. The SAT antenna is in the middle of the panel behind the conv top, just in front of the trunk. I saved the MINT stock stereo for future installation. If anybody wants to replace their original equipment radio, I highly recomend the adapter harness kit that most places sell. It allows for quick, no wire cutting installation of a new unit, while maintaining the original harness.
