other steering wheels...
« on: November 15, 2003, 05:30:00 PM »

i'm thinking that a 1990-1993 mustang or taurus steering wheel will fit the capri - they look the same.

i'm thinking on buying the wheel below on ebay:

think this will look good? having a grey wheel that is. whatcha think?

Who cares, it IS a Ford  ;)  I'm curious as to why you would want to replace the black wheel with gray    The black is more upscale looking, and goes better with the black cluster bezel. Ford gray is very blah, IMO.

Not having a 94 the rest of his interior is grey, so it will match good.

hehe, yes I am aware of what a non94 interior looks like  ;)  Just because a color is dominant does not mean it will necessarily look better in a particular location. I think it will make the black dash cluster look out of place. Anyways, its just an opinion regardless

Good time to ask rob what his idea behind the wheel is.

i'd think the colored wheel might do better than the black wheel for not being so hot to the touch in the summer (it gets 105deg+ in the summer here)
.

also, i'm taking all the mercury emblems off the car and making it a ford, like our australian bretheren. i find the waterfall emblem of the mercury quite tacky.

and... the gauge cluster will be housing some white face reverse indiglo gauges soon, so i want to play down the black a bit.

i'm not 100% sure i'm for the grey though, either. i plan on going darker with the carpet, with either red or blue cloth front seats and door inserts. the back seat i plan on covering in a grey that matches the door panels, so to make the seat dissapear, giving it more of a 2 seater look while still having a usable back seat for my kids.

Yeah we had planned on doing the same with our rear seat...in fact I STILL have a huge roll of gray vinyl just wasting away in my storage area  :(  Except we definetely don't have the kid part on our end  ;)

I just grow tired of modifying all these cars just to have them still be virtually worthless. So, starting with new!

Well the 88 5.0 we actually came very close to MAKING money on it!    That was definetely a first for me  ;)  But there is much larger fan base for a car like a Mustang so once you grow tired of it and yearn for another project, then its not very hard to find your car a new home and move on.

So, of course its a no brainer that I modify cars because I like them...or else I never would have started in the first place. However I have just grown weary lately of the sunk costs, so I am just taking a break

I LIKE the Capri, I just don't want to modify it after looking at investment vs. end value.

Only one that I know of and have my self is Pace Setters' Adjustable Quick Throw Shifter. works well for are car and possible to have a 90% throw decrease if you have the arm muscle to shift it.

One of those things, you invest money into something you like, most people who like something enough is not gonna sell it after finishing up there ideas/dreams. Even once I'm finished this car I'll be holding onto it a long time.
