Bout 3 months on my gear set and no problems. 55mph is about 2300 rpm. Ive gotten a best of 41.1 mpg in my festiva no doubt thanks to that rpm drop.

I wouldn't mind getting this. could you link the step by step to do this? My clutch is slipping a little. Once I get the capri running right I'll be replacing. Just nice to get better mpg.

Is this the highest gear that will work? Can you use the 0.69 gear from a M5 transmission from a Festiva/Tracer?

Anyone done this? really would like to improve the MPG on my 93 XR2 and I am hoping this is a good answer.

The .717 is the lowest gear you can go on the Gtype. The Festiva/Tracers use an Etype and Ftype and the gearsets from those are not compatible.
There is rumor about a .6xx gearset used on a diesel engine in japan, but noone has ever come up with solid info on it.

This'll drop your cruising RPM's ~300+ rpm at 65mph depending on your tire combo.

I've put one of these gearsets in my AWD transmission in my capri, and Russ has a set in his blue '94 turbo, that car rides beautifully on the highway. I think he was getting close to 40mpg on the way to my Northeast Meet this fall.

Very much worth it!

I got 47.2 mpg on the way back from the MACG with this swap in my festy.

Though I was doing like 45 the whole way....lol.

There's only one way known to G-series enthusiasts to go "lower" than the swap in question:

Big risk, big reward.  I'll rephrase:  HUGE risk, HUGE reward. .545 ratio, a high gear ratio usually seen only on giant V8's and supercars.  Absolutely useless with any sort of hill though haha.

I WANT THIS!

The AWD transmission is geared so freaking low, even with the 5th gear swap I'm still revving to death on the highway. Needs moar OD!

Holy crap that would be sweet!

With our 3.85 final drive and stock diameter tires we would be at 1700rpm at 55mph. Thats about 600 less than with the .717 5th. My festy would still have no problem with accelerating or hills with that gearing!

I managed 47.2mpg on the way back from MACG doing 45 pretty much the whole way, I bet I would have been well over 50mpg with a .545 gear. I would have been cruising at 1400rpm!

If only I had the time, money, a spare trans, and a way for this to be 100% reliable.

The machine work for that is pretty ridiculous, and it didn't last for him... It would be cool to have a set custom cut though. IIRC around $900...

wish there was a way to slap an extra set of gears on the end of the trans, get a six speed!
