Yeah, how much is the RPM drop at say, 55 and 65+ mph?

The RPM drop should be the same at bnoth speeds as the ratio isn't variable.
I bought one set from Clay and installed it on my 91XR2 and the RPM are decreased approximately 350-400 RPM If you graph the spped change it would give you an approxiate top end of 145mph at 6750rpm. This of course assumes you can develop power out to 6750rpm which you probably can't. If you study a HP-Torque vs RPM you will notice a substantial drop in torque and a flattening of HP at about 5000rpm. this is the point where more rpm won't develop more power.

I think the main reason this is such a good upgrade is mainly the drop in rpm(350 to 400 is right depending on 65-75 mph). Not many use the higher side of top end. These cars are more fun 2nd thru 4th anyway. This is probably the only upgrade that will pay for itself and then put more green in your pocket in a short time. Can't be too dang bad since I have moved upwards of 45-50 sets over the last couple of years with no complaints.

Thanks for asking
Clay

0 at cruise. Not many of us live for the higher side of the top end. These cars are much more fun from 2nd to 4th gear anyway. Along with the reduced rpm comes more fuel economy and less noise and such in the cabin. It can't be too dang bad since I have sold upward of 45-50 sets over the last couple of years with not one complaint. These gears are probably the only upgrade that will pay for itself and put some more green in your pocket in a short time.
Thanks

Is there a writeup on the install? I saw the "5th gear swap and phantom grip" writeup but it didnt say much about the actual gear swap.

I can send the step by step instructions...very straight forward and the tranny stays in the car.

It took me about 2 beers(20min for the rest of you) to do the swap. 2 capture nuts (very similar to the axel nuts, take your time on bending the stake out of position) remove all the parts 1 at a time and stack each side as you pull it out on top of the proceeding part). Swap gears, reassemble in descending order as removed. Tighten the capture nuts to the same place that it was staked at and re-stake. Seal the cover with ATF resistant sealer and let it sit until it dries. I could teach my dog to do this!

cant wait to get the GTX tranny rebuilt. I am just going to give them the gears I bought from Clay since they are already in there and have them install them.

Wait, wait.  As usual, I am a dollar short and a day late here.  What is this gear set thing about ?
Is someone selling a new set of gears for an XR2 trans ?
Am I reading correctly that this gear set decreases engine revs at highway speed by 350-400 R.P.M. ?
Are the ratios different in gears 1 through 4 ?

And I can do this gear swap at home relatively easily ?

How much for the set (shipped to Detroit) and where do I send the moola?
