Will register as a 'motorcycle' project
« on: July 06, 2010, 08:15:00 AM »

Well, it's not going to be a good looking as your Capri 'cars'  but this is the general look I think my 3-wheeled project will have. (Subject to constant changes)

Thanks,
The front 'open mouth' will be simular to the old AC Cobras. The hood will remain stock, I'll just follow the lines (minus the pop-up lights) & loose the bumper stuff. Twin 'side-pipes' share exhaust duties.
The back 'swing-arm' suspension will attach to the stock mounting points of the rear stablizer arms & taper in to support an 8" wide wheel. Coil-over-shocks will be the suspension. The rear wheel/tire will be right behind the stock fuel tank.  Well that's the plan today suject to a dozen changes.

I cut & welded 2 stock Capri wheels to make the rear wheel for my 3-wheeler project. Each side of the wheel has a 'face' on which is a disc brake rotor. The rotors hold the 4 bearings (like stock)that will ride on the center axle. (like a regular motorcycle)  The wheel is 9" wide & will have a 245/60/14 tire. It will have both stock brake calipers.  FYI...Here's a link to the picture:

Gostlrs...Thanks for posting the actual picture & not just a link (like I did ...I don't know how to attach a picture to my posts) I see where it says "HTML is not enabled" ..... anyway thanks again for posting the picture.
I'm building the rear suspension now so it will be a while before I've got a picture to post.
I figured for you guys this project of mine is like when you drive past a wreck on the road... you don't want to see anyone hurt, but you can't stop from looking anyway.

To attach a picture, first upload your pics to a photo site (Photobucket.com, etc.). copy and paste the address (URL) of the photo, after clicking on the blue "image" tab under the reply box (where you type the replies).

Welded the rear swingarm assembly. (In over 100+ degrees today).  Here's a picture of it & the sideways adjustable stabilizer bar. I'll start on the detail points on it tomorrow.  FYI

OK, bare with me here... progress has slowed while (needed) business has picked-up. The inner trunk sheetmetal is done, the rear swingarm suspension & wheel (brakes and all) are done, an 'inner-sheetmetal' panel is covering the stock wheel wells (not the out-side finished panel that will blend in with the body), I've only started on forming the mold for the fiberglass rear panel (ugly)...

Believe me when I say "You're being too kind!"
The fiberglass & sheetmetal work is the slowest & the 'least-fun' part of this project. It's my planned tail-light setup that I'm looking forward the most to do but I can't until the rear panel is done. The tail-light will be clear plexy over a mirrored 'back-panel' with rows of red LEDs (the full width of the vehicle)& a clear 'defusing' panel (like some floresent fixtures have)to multiply the red 'points-of-lights'. Not being a 5' long normal RED lens will looked real clean & different. (IMHO) I've also finished making the polished 2" stainless steel side exhausts but that doesn't get installed 'till after final paint. Well that's the "up-date" for now.
