Rocketman-
I was surfing eBay last night looking for a boost controller, when I came across the A'PEXi USA Digital AVC-R Boost Controller.  Opinion??  Do you know anything about this unit?  Reason I ask, is I was going to get a manual controller so I can use your RocketChip in my 92.  While surfing eBay, I saw a picture for the APEXi unit, and realized I already have one!!  It came installed in the ClubSprint, and I had no idea what it was! I know you can do a lot of things with it, but for the $300-500 they get for one of these, it better drive the car as well!!!
So, basicaly, my question is, what's your opinion of these units?

Thanks!

I have no personal experience with the unit. However have a read over at SCC, they reviewed the unit in question: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0207scc_a_pexi_avc_r_boost_controler/index.html

I can help you figure out the wiring install, it really taps deep into the harness to get all of its info. Maybe just copy it from the clubsprint?

And as they noted there, things seemed to have got hairy after a little while. I've heard plenty about that on high-end electronic boost controllers, they use what is called "fuzzy logic" to try to learn boost curves and tailor toward your engine/turbo. While sometimes this works great it can be real trouble to try to get it to learn some turbo systems.

If you've got it great, I would say give it a shot if you can. If it doesnt work very good i'd say toss it on eBay and pick up a nice MBC.

Well, I think I've decided to go with a MBC, over the A'PEXi unit.  I really don't want anything to complicated, and I don't have time to mess with a unit that complex.  Besides, I can put it up on eBay, and put the money towards a much-needed paint job!!
Thanks for the input!!

rocket man with the rocket chip do you have to run 16 psi is that what the map is for or can you tune down the boost to say around 11 -12 if you want due to the b e a utiful mass weather

You can tune your boost controller to run anywhere from stock boost all the way up to 16PSi. some people prefer to only run 12 or 14 pounds of boost it's really just how much power you want from your engine.

Personally I have a dual stage controller, that at the flick of a switch I can go from 12psi to 16psi. I also have a pretty aggressive turbo so that small difference in boost is a huge difference in power.

is this something I could mod myself so I don't have the down time of shipping? I am very good with electronics and have had a lot of experience with auto electrical. just seeing if you would ship the parts for me to do this or if you are not ok with doing that.

if you are a master at soldering on a VERY tiny scale... then you could just buy the chip and solder it in... but if you cross any of the contacts... you could fry your ecu. I suggest doing what I did, and do the core deposit... RocketMan sent me a chipped ecu, and when I got it installed, I sent my old one to him. (I believe RM still does the core deposit program)

Unless you have no skills whatsoever damaging the board is the least of ones worries. The board could be socketed and the chip installed. This would eliminate the possibility of overheating the chip, the most likely part to be damaged.

well I do lots of soldering for my job making MIL eliminators I am always working on parts that are small. I'm not worried about my abilities with something like that at all.

this sounds amazing! i am really interested however i want to make sure that 16 psi is safe for this motor right? i would rather have less power and keep it on the road for a while bc i love my capri!
so if you ensure me that it is safe i could prolly order one in like 2 weeks from you... send me a msg with what you think
