If you leave the cap off and start it does it bubble in the radiator?

Is there any smoke when the engine is running?

I'd suggest a leakdown test - you'll be able to determine if it is a head gasket right away. Leave the radiator cap off when pressurizing the cylinders, you'll be able to watch the pressure drop and maybe see it bubble when you find the bad cylinder(s)

hey  just like you after i rebuilt my xr2 motor i have had the same problem with the pressure in the radiator.. with no answer to why. i have been driving the hell of it and nothing has giving to lead me to thing anything is wrong with headgasket.. so i just did a little rednecking and ran the radiator puck tube into a bigger container so to catch it.. hey it works. till a reason shows it self
