Big Turbo...
« on: May 05, 2008, 09:10:00 PM »

I've just finished installing a VJ11/Thunderbird hybrid turbo...

We'll see what happens. I've had a huge oil leak for some time now and I finally narrowed it down to the head gasket, so I decided to replace it today after work. Its now 4am and I have to be to work in an hour. lol.  :(

Anyways I've had this thing sitting around for a while and I figured I'd give it a shot. Its much larger than the stock turbo, and about as big as you can really go for "bolt on" upgrades - but its still a small turbo. I think in the range of normal turbos its considered a very small T3, or a t25ish flavor.

I ported the hell out of the wastegate back while it was still a VJ11 so I really hope I dont run into overboost problems.

Pictures tomorrow, if I can find the time to clear out the card on my camera. I need to weld up a new downpipe and tidy up a bunch of odds and ends.

I've worked on these cars too much now...i've damned near memorized every bolt and connection. Makes me sick sometimes lol..

damn. i need to sleep.

This turbo is too big. Starts boosting at 4k, almost full boost by 5k...

but the acceleration is just madness.

I dont know if I'll be able to stick with it.

If you want to get rid of it I'll buy it off you or trade you a vj-5 set-up + cash.

This would not be for a tarmac car...all out complete drag car only, or a "highway wonder".

It would be $$ though. Its got a ported wastegate that holds rock solid boost, a great condition rebuilt center cartridge, and a MWP intake flange.

I think what I'm going to do to overcome the lag is put a twin screw supercharger on the other side of the engine...
