Front Wheel Bearing HELP
« on: March 19, 2010, 05:25:00 PM »

The front left wheel bearing in my Capri only ever lasts about 2 years before that dreaded whoop whoop noise when driving.
I have had the knuckle/hub/rotor off the car to get the wheel bearing replaced but does anyone know how the hub is separated from the knuckle so I can inspect the bearings myself and see whats going on in there.

If the axle nut is removed, then use a wood dowel or something similar to gently tap the spindle out of the knuckle from the back side. The bearings will be immediately visible. There will also be a spacer on the spindle shaft, DO NOT LOSE IT.

Your spacer may not be matched properly anymore, Have the bearing pre-load checked... too much / too little will cause premature bearing failure
