Hey Josh!  The inter-cooler generally does not help cool the engine, it cools the air stream going through the intake tract. the increase in engine temp is due to increase of horse-power being made. I have been looking at different radiators for the last year trying to find something that cools better than the oem unit and that will fit. I am still looking.  Gus.

I have not noticed too much of a difference in engine temps - then again I have the AC radiator out and my FMIC does not block too much airflow to the radiator.

If you are noticing a large increase in temperature I'd reccomend going over your cooling system. The ECU runs the car rich under load which helps keeps temps down so it's something to look into.

Sorry the intercooler is no longer available. You can find them on eBay for a Mitsubishi Starion / Chrysler Conquest but it will need to be modified in the fashion that mine was.

The intercooler will keep your air charge temp down but will not have a noticable effect on the temperature the engine runs at - see my post above.

However a FMIC will generally give you better throttle response, more top end, and slightly quicker turbo spool.

what kind of mileage did you get on the trip to IN?

I'm curious, since I'd love to do mods, but to sacrifice power I don't really want to sacrifice mileage.  I'm getting about 27 winter and 29 (mostly highway) on my 91 stock xr2.

I got mixed mileage...depended on my speed an terrain. Interestingly enough leaving my home and making to pittsburgh I got 34mpg, I was traveling between 65 and 70. Its a lot of hills and winding highway. Was also the only tank of Sunoco I had the entire trip, might have a difference. The rest was Valero I think.

The rest of the trip I was between 70 and 75, sometimes hitting 80, and I got 29mpg. Its also really flat and straight. The trip home I was also traveling a bit faster and got about the same mileage.

Around town at home I average 20-22mpg but I'm also really heavy on the throttle driving mostly backroads up steep hills and valleys.

Overall the biggest effect on mileage I've noticed was my exhaust...it dropped way down around town after I welded in a 2.25" exhaust. Maybe its the lack of backpressure, i dont know.
