my engine is making a knocking/tapping noise. just changed the oil and still no change.

its a 91 xr2 with just over 50k miles on it.

any help or suggestions are appreciated. my knowledge on cars is limited.  haha

Tapping on top would be a lifter. Mine does for a min. until warm then goes away. With a 172,000 mi. doesn't bother me til I get a new engine. Where's the knock coming from?

sounds like its coming from the top and it constantly does it.

You might have a stuck lifter. There is a TSB out there about it, # 932414 but I can't locate a copy online right now, I will look again tonight

what can i do to fix it? is that something that will potentially hurt the engine?

Can you grab a video of it?

What weight oil are you running? When did this start, has the car been sitting for an extended period of time? Has the car run low on oil at any time?

ill try to get a video this weekend.

im using synthetic 10w-30 i thnk its been happening for a while i just never noticed.

before 2008 it sat most of its life. it only had 5k miles on it when i got it.
