i'm replacing the brake lines on my car.
the rear of the car has disc brakes.
1993 mercury capri

• 2 brake lines run from the master cylinder to the rear
• the 2 brake lines meet at this device, then split to each wheel.
• this device is not in my service manual (written by Ford).

• what is this device? (mounted on my rear axle).
• can it be bypassed, like my service manual shows?
• is their a universal part replacement?

I believe it's just a distribution block & a way to secure the lines to the chassis

It's solid cast iron it should clean up pretty good

i'm so proud of myself. i ran two new brake lines for the rear from the master cylinder to the two rear flex hoses and routed it identical to the original lines, including re-utilizing the plastic frame mounts.
i used copper nickel, the lines do not rub the frame anywhere.
i could not save that one junction (in the OP), and did not want to fuss with elbows/splices.

• so i used UV protected zip ties and fastened one line to the rigid rubber fuel neck.
• the other line is zipped tied to the frame in a fashion that it still won't rub the frame.
• i slightly exaggerated the curve for the right line so i could easily poke my head under and have unmistakable visual inspections.
