Distributor O-ring (oil seal)
« on: April 16, 2013, 10:07:00 AM »

So first time posting on the board, just purchased a 91 Capri Convertible last week. Every is in fairly good condition except it leaks oil around the distributor. I have tried calling ford, and a few other places but all say this o-ring (oil seal) part is obsolete. Any ideas where I could source one? Or what the exact dimensions are so I can use a different one?

Also thanks for the forum! Tons of great info and ideas on here!

Congrats on the buy, if you are a do-it-your-selfer, then the car will work out good for you.

Our Capri shares many parts with the 1989 Mazda 323, and lots of folks sell Mazda distributor o-rings, should work OK.

You will find many parts for the 1989 Mazda 323 that will work on the Capri (like the gas tank), but many folks (like Autozone) don't cross reference it into the Capri.

Are you sure it's the o-ring?  Valve cover gasket would leak more than an o-ring, and its right there at the distributor...Chris

He is dead on..... Mine did the same thing. I just took the distributor into the parts store & found one that fit. Of course this was before Russ owned RooSport... HA HA

Wow thanks for the quick and helpful replies. I will call up the mazda dealer and hopefully that will be the right one. If not I will order off that website which has lots of other hard to find things.

Your right blueamber, I have only done a few small things so far but what an easy car to work on!
