"Rare" hardtops
« on: September 14, 2009, 03:32:00 PM »

y'know, everytime somebody tells me they have a "rare" Capri hardtop, I just wanna slap the taste out of their mouth!  They might not be readily available for people who don't live in major metropolitan areas, but they are by no means "rare." I know they stopped producing them at some point, but I would venture to say the number they made in the prior prior years exceeds the current demand.

It also seems to me that unless your car is a daily driver (and I mean Summer, Fall, Spring AND Winter), then you probably don't care much about dragging that puppy out each year and bolting it on.

I think this "rare" myth arose because of Miatas.  A Miata top in the early years went for some outrageous price ($2500 as I recall, or perhaps more) when Miatas were introduced, which soured people's desire to order one with the car.  Now, the original ones truly are scarce, although I haven't looked at it lately, but unless there is an after market solution, perhaps they still have the same problem.  But the point is that it is a Miata problem and not necessarily a problem with Capris.

Anyway, if anybody has a different story than what I've provided, I'd love to hear it.

Hey! They're as rare as a '94XR2, I have three; oops; I have three '94Xr2s and I have four hard-tops. Don't know what my point is.  Gus

Yeah, the one I already own is rare.  It's the only one at my house!  I could have had 2, but when I bought the '94 XR2 last month, I made the deal for the car without the top.  Why should I store 2 tops that I never use?
